It seems that in some weird way Lion does not correctly identify the port to use. The printers are listening to port 139, and Lion is using port 445. How to fix?

Use the normal installation procedure as under Snow Leopard, but with a few twists:

  • Like in previous OSX version, printers need to be added via System Preferences, then Print & Scan, than Add printer (the “+” and then “advanced’ tab (add this tab via ‘customize toolbar’ if it is not yet there’
  • The type is “Windows printer via spoolss’ (used to be “Windows Printer”)
  • Use the following line when installing the printer:
    smb://ieisprint.campus.tue.nl:139/printername
    (Used to be smb://ieisprint.campus.tue.nl/printername)

  • When accessing apparently you should not use the tue/ prefix, but just your account-name. Like so:

Hope this helps the Lion users to print their documents in the Microsoft TU/e environment.
